Cuidar los lentes de contacto es importantisimo, ya que manipular y limpiar incorrectamente las lentes de contacto es una de las principales causas de infecciones oculares y otros problemas que pueden tener serias consecuencias para tu salud ocular e impactar negativamente tu estilo de vida.

Si usted no utiliza lentes de contacto desechables diarias, lo mejor que puede hacer para proteger sus ojos y su visión es incorporar la limpieza como una parte de su rutina diaria de quitarse las lentes. Ya que las lentes de contacto no se utiliza como una prenda de vestir, se trata de un dispositivo medico y que esta en contacto con una parte de su cuerpo muy delicada, la cornea, así que evitar riesgos sera su máxima prioridad.

Cuide sus lentes de contacto de manera adecuada

Debe limpiar y desinfectar cualquier lente de contacto que se quite del ojo antes de volver a ponérselo. Existen muchos tipos de sistemas de limpieza para sus lentillas y su elección va a depender del tipo de lentes de contacto que use, además de si tiene alergias o si sus ojos tienen tendencia a acumular depósitos de proteína.

Para saber qué tipo de soluciones de limpieza debe utilizar es imprescindible que consulte con su especialista de la visión para que tras un detallado examen visual pueda recomendarle el más adecuado.

Esto el lo que debe hacer cuando limpie y guarde sus lentes de contacto para hacerlo correctamente a fin de evitar problemas y peligrosas infecciones oculares:

Seguir las instrucciones

Siga al pie de la letra las instrucciones que le indicó su especialista de la visión cuando empezó a utilizar sus lentillas así como a respectar el tiempo de uso recomendado por el fabricante de las lentes de contacto.

Dormir sin ellas

Nunca use lentes de contacto mientras duerme, ni siquiera una siesta. Salvo que sean lentes de contacto especiales con las que si se pueda dormir.

Cuidado con el agua

Quítese los lentes de contacto antes de darse una ducha, darse un baño, nadar o hacer cualquier actividad en la que la que el agua pueda entrar en contacto con los ojos.

Lavese las manos

Antes de tocar los lentes de contacto, lávese las manos con jabón y agua, y séqueselas con una toalla que no suelte hilos o pelusas. Mi profesor de contactologia me decia que sin las manos bien lavadas los ojos solo se tocan con los codos, con eso se hace una idea de la importancia de tener una buena higiene.

Cuidado con qué las limpia

Nunca se ponga los lentes de contacto en la boca o debajo del grifo para humedecerlos o limpiarlos. La saliva o el agua corriente no son soluciones esterilizadas y se arriesga a infecciones o cosas peores. Use una solución única especial para lentillas.

Insisto, cuidado con qué las limpia

No enjuague sus lentes de contacto una solución salina casera. Tampoco use una solución salina ni gotas humectantes para desinfectar los lentes. No son desinfectantes.

Úselas correctamente

Siga al pie de la letra las instrucciones de su especialista de la vision y las del fabricante de la solución de limpieza para limpiar y guardar los lentes.

Frotar y enjuagar

Independientemente del tipo de solución de limpieza de lentes que utilize, use el método de limpieza de frotar y enjuagar. Frote los lentes de contacto con los dedos limpios y luego enjuague los lentes con solución antes de guardarlos en el estuche siempre sumergirlos en solución de mantenimiento. Use este método incluso si la solución de limpieza que usa es del tipo que no requiere frotar, mas vale prevenir que curar.

Use soluciones de limpieza nuevas

Utilize una solución de limpieza nueva cada vez que limpie y desinfecte sus lentes de contacto. Nunca reutilice la solución, ni mezcle una usada con una sin usar. Tampoco guarde la solución para lentillas en otro envase que no sea el suyo. Si lo hace, la solución dejará de estar esterilizada.

Cuidado con el bote

Asegúrese de que la boca del envase de la solución no entre en contacto con ninguna superficie. Mantenga el envaso bien cerrado cuando no lo utilice.

No se olvide del estuche

Enjuague el estuche de sus lentillas con solución para lentes de contacto esterilizada (no use agua corriente u otros liquidos). Posteriormente, deje el estuche abierto para que se seque solo, en ningún caso utilice un papel o trapo para secarlo.

Reemplace el estuche

Cambie de estuche de lentes de contacto por lo menos cada 3 meses. Cambielo inmediatamente si se rompe o se daña.

Atención al tiempo que llevan guardados

Si guarda los lentes de contacto en el estuche durante mucho tiempo, lea las instrucciones de las lentillas o de la solución de mantenimiento para comprobar si es necesario volver a desinfectarlos antes de usarlos. Nunca use sus lentes de contacto si han estado guardados durante 30 días o más, sin antes desinfectarlos.

Hágase revisiones regulares

Los lentes de contacto pueden deformarse con el paso del tiempo y su córnea también puede cambiar de forma. Para asegurarse de que los lentes se ajusten correctamente a su superficie corneal y evitar daños en la misma, ademas de verificar si su graduación es la adecuada o ha cambiado, visite a su especialista de la visión regularmente.

Recuerde, todas las lentes de contacto son extremadamente delicadas y son productos sanitarios. Seguir las instrucciones de mantenimiento del especialista y del fabricante de las lentes y de la solución de limpieza es fundamental para proteger la salud de sus ojos y su visión. No empiece nunca a utilizar lentes de contacto sin consultar primero con un especialista.
